Currency
Invoice in any currency. Perfect for international freelancers working with clients around the world.
How It Works
Set Your Default Currency
Choose the currency you use most often:
- Go to Settings → Invoice Settings
- Select your default currency from the dropdown
- Save your changes
This currency will be pre-selected for all new invoices. You can still change it per invoice if needed.
Change Currency Per Invoice
Working with a client who prefers a different currency? No problem:
- Create or edit an invoice
- Click the currency dropdown (e.g., GBP)
- Select the client's preferred currency (e.g., USD, EUR)
- Enter amounts in that currency
The currency symbol appears automatically on the invoice and PDF.
Currency Symbols Display Automatically
Select a currency and the correct symbol appears on invoices:
Supported Currencies
Qazua currently supports 3 major currencies:
- GBP - British Pound (£)
- USD - US Dollar ($)
- EUR - Euro (€)
These three currencies cover the majority of freelancer invoicing needs. We are considering adding more currencies based on user demand.
Tips for International Invoicing
Use Client's Local Currency
Invoicing in your client's local currency makes invoices clearer and easier for them to process. A US client will appreciate an invoice in USD rather than having to mentally convert from GBP.
State Your Payment Method
When invoicing internationally, clearly state how clients should pay:
- PayPal: Handles currency conversion automatically
- Wise (formerly TransferWise): Low-fee international transfers
- Bank Transfer: Include your SWIFT/BIC code and IBAN for international transfers
- Revolut/Monzo: Some digital banks support multi-currency accounts
Add payment instructions in the invoice notes field so clients know exactly what to do.
Consider Currency Conversion Fees
When you receive payment in a foreign currency, your bank or payment provider will convert it to your local currency. This conversion includes fees (typically 1-3%). Consider these fees when setting your rates for international clients.
Example: If you normally charge £500, you might charge $650 USD to account for conversion fees and fluctuations.
Lock in Exchange Rates
Exchange rates fluctuate. If you quote a price in a foreign currency, consider:
- Sending the invoice soon after quoting to minimize rate changes
- Setting payment terms (e.g., 7 days) so rates do not shift dramatically before payment
- Using a service like Wise that locks in rates when you create an invoice
Currency and Tax
If you are VAT registered in the UK and invoice in foreign currencies:
- You must still report VAT in GBP on your VAT return
- Use HMRC's published exchange rates or the rate on the invoice date
- Keep clear records of exchange rates used for each invoice
Consult an accountant if you regularly invoice in multiple currencies and are VAT registered.
Common Questions
Can I change currency after issuing an invoice?
No. Once an invoice is issued, the currency is locked. If you need to change it, void the invoice and create a new one with the correct currency.
Does Qazua convert currencies automatically?
No. Qazua does not perform currency conversion. You enter the amount in the currency you select, and that amount appears on the invoice. Conversion happens when payment is processed (via PayPal, bank, etc.).
Can I see revenue in one currency?
Your dashboard shows revenue in the currency of each invoice. If you invoice in multiple currencies, you will see totals broken down by currency. To see a single total, you would need to manually convert using current exchange rates.
What currency should I use for UK clients?
Use GBP (£) for UK clients. This is the standard and what they expect. Using a foreign currency for UK invoicing adds unnecessary complexity.
Pro Tip
For international clients, discuss payment currency upfront. Ask: "Would you prefer the invoice in USD or GBP?" This shows professionalism and avoids confusion later. Most clients appreciate being asked.
